Stitching on fabric

Recently, friends and stitching acquaintances have given me linen and Aida cloth to try stitching on. After years of filling in tapestry canvases I’m enjoying not needing to fill in the background.

Here are my first attempts, including the just-completed Black and Red Village which I’m very happy with.

February 2024: unfortunately, the Aida cloth doesn’t sit flat when framed, as I discovered when intending to include items in the 2023 Kapiti Art Trail, and you can see in some of the photos that the fabric is puckering – I’d thought it was a poor quality photograph.

Happily, linen and lightweight furnishing fabrics are good to stitch on, and I’ve done several “Village” themed works – including the one below – which you can see here.
